Hi guys
Just to let you guys know I have converted my Scythe Musashi to Pwm fans, and I am really pleased with the results, the fans I used are the ones supplied with Shuriken CPU cooler. which have identical dimensions to original fan supplied.
I have a Saphire Radeon 4870 512mb, and is fitted with pwm fan as part of the original coooler assembly, I used the plug from the original and soldered wires taking care to leave unconected one the two rpm wires from the new pwm fans.
my 4870 idles at aprox 45º c with ambient temp of 25º c at which point the automatic fan speed control for the fan shows between 2% and 5% fan speed.
If I wish to go for maximum overclock, all it requires is selecting manual fan speed control in ati overdrive, and the new fans will reach 2200 rpm instead of 2000 rpm, so they will provide a little extra cooling at the expense of slightly more noise.
I still think it would be quite easy to implement, all it would require would be 2 pwm fans and a pwm splitter with a miniplug instead of a standard sized header plug.
