hhager's mainboard is only manufactured by Asus - but it is sold as OEM board in HP PCs. Those boards run with modified BIOS' as far as I could find out via Google. So the function of ignoring could really be disabled by HP.

@hhager: is there a chassis fan connected to the appropriate header on the board? If yes: what happens if you just exchange the two fan connectors (place Scythe fan on chassis fan connector and connect chassis fan to CPU fan connector). Perhaps this will avoid the alarm.

In "real" Asus BIOS' (non-OEM) you can disable the warning by entering the monitoring page in BIOS, selecting the line where the actual RPM are shown, press ENTER and the select IGNORE in the dropdown list.

Did you try if the latest available BIOS form HP changes anything concerning the fan options in setup?
